Benefits to Hospitals for Participating in the WVHIN

  • Minimize development of costly interfaces
  • Low cost way to exchange data outside the hospital system through the WVHIN hub
  • Ability to make hospital tools available through the WVHIN portal even when outside the integrated network
  • Receipt of public health alerts
  • Improve coordination of care 
  • Lower costs for uninsured, Medicaid, and self-insured patients
  • Enable more efficient management of patient load in Emergency Departments

 

 Hospital Resources

  • On July 13, 2010, the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released the final Meaningful Use regulations. The final rule can be found on the Federal Register.

Halamka, MD, MS, is Chief Information Officer of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Chief Information Officer at Harvard Medical School, Chairman of the New England Healthcare Exchange Network (NEHEN), Chair of the US Healthcare Information Technology Standards Panel (HITSP)/Co-Chair of the HIT Standards Committee, and a practicing Emergency Physician.
